Supply chain assessment

What is a supply chain assessment?

The supply chain assessment looks at your supply chain from the procurement process through to delivery of your product or service. The assessment takes into consideration your offer to the market and strategic intent and compares it to your capability. Essentially it is a comparison on your ability to deliver on your promises to your customers.

Why do a supply chain assessment?

To ensure that your business is delivering on its promises to the customer base. You can have excellent sales, marketing and customer service while letting the customer down by delivering products and services poorly. Your supply chain has to be optimised to deliver the products your customer buys at the right quality, on time, in full and cost effectively.

Who would benefit from a supply chain assessment?

Any business that is concerned that it is not delivering the promise it makes to its customers through its supply chain.

How long does it take?

Typically a supply chain assessment would take 3 – 6 months.

What is included?

The main elements of a supply chain assessment are:

  • Purchasing assessment
  • Goods inwards assessment
  • Storage assessment
  • Assembly/manufacturing assessment
  • Packaging assessment
  • Warehousing assessment
  • Delivery assessment
  • Recommendations
  • Implementation plan
What is the process?

We start the process with a scoping discussion and a written scope document. Prior to starting the job we provide a letter of engagement, setting out the terms of the engagement. You will need to sign this document on behalf of your business and return it to Competitive Insights. Putting the document together requires access to internal financials and documents. In addition we will need to interview a small number of people who hold key positions in the business. We update with the key contact or group on a weekly basis and are available for discussion on completion of the document.

What do you get?

The output from this process is a PDF document that is suitable for electronic sharing or printing. In addition to the document there are weekly progress/debrief sessions during the engagement as well as presentation/discussion when the final document is delivered.
